Every Stephen King Movie Ranked Worst To Best

49. Maximum Overdrive (1986)

Stephen King Movies Ranked

Maximum Overdrive features King's sole credit as director, and the results are a mess. Based on the short story "Trucks," the sci-fi thriller follows a gaggle of humans who form a rebellion after every piece of technology on earth gains evil sentience from a passing comet, even an ATM that calls King himself an "assh*le."

Starring an awkward Emilio Estevez and sporting some seriously silly action that plays itself far too straight, King would later go on record to disown the film, stating: "I was coked out my mind all through its production, and I really didn't know what I was doing." He could have fooled us.

Aidan Whatman hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
