Every Studio Ghibli Movie Ranked Worst To Best

7. Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)

The joy of Kiki's Delivery Service comes from how authentic its portrayal of growing up is, following its young protagonist as she learns being independent doesn't mean being alone.

Like the vast majority of Ghibli productions, Kiki's Delivery Service uses a young female protagonist - in this case, a witch who works for a bakery - and takes its simple story to say touching things about what it means to come of age.

This moving story is coupled with dependably colourful animation that brilliantly brings its alluring world to life, and a complex but empowering view of adolescence most animation movies are sorely lacking.

Kiki's Delivery Service is one of Ghibli's greatest movies, and an early Miyazaki masterclass that tackles the trials of youth and independence with imaginative fantasy twists to spare.
