With yet another empowering female protagonist in young fighter Chihiro, the fantasy takes place in a hidden spirit world, in which she must work tirelessly to save her parents from the spell of a powerful witch.

Everything about Spirited Away captures the very best of what Studio Ghibli has to offer, from its assessments of environmentalism to its stunning art, and its portrayal of family to its empathetic depiction of facing change.

Spirited Away has it all and then some, remaining twenty years after its release a film of unmatched creativity and joy. With it, the great Miyazaki reached his full potential, and cemented Studio Ghibli as the powerhouse it was always meant to be.
