Every Tom Cruise Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

8. Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

Tom Cruise Interview With The Vampire
Warner Bros.

Stanley Kubrick's challenging erotic drama Eyes Wide Shut casts Cruise in one of his most against-type roles as a doctor who feels betrayed by his wife and embarks on a journey into a mysterious underground secret society.

Unlike almost every other role under his belt, Cruise here is extremely unsure, constantly conflicted, hilariously unprepared and even scared, but thanks to his work opposite co-star (and then-wife) Nicole Kidman and Kubrick's rewarding direction, he never feels out-of-place in the role.

A film about obsession, sex, marriage, happiness and psychological torment might not sound like classic Tom Cruise territory, but it easily marks one of his finest performances and films.
