Every Wes Anderson Film Ranked Worst To Best
6. isle of Dogs
Isle of Dogs marks Anderson’s second foray into stop-motion animation, and it’s only marginally below his first attempt at the medium in terms of quality. The film’s voice cast, once again stuffed with the cream of the acting crop, give it their all playing gangs of dogs in near-future Japan that have been exiled to an island of trash due to a canine flu outbreak.
If there is one slight criticism that can be levelled at the film, it’s that several areas of the trash island do end up looking somewhat similar during the film and the locale can feel repetitive after a while. The movie is still a far cry from looking ugly, with the dog models and the city of Megasaki just as gorgeous as you would expect from Anderson.
The story's tone moves between hopeful and bleak without ever seeming jarring and the graceful handing of themes like love and abandonment ensures that audiences will be drying their eyes long after the credits roll.
