Every X-Men Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
1. Logan
Who would have thought that an R-rated, not-quite-in-universe, semi-adaptation of seminal comic book arc Old Man Logan would be both the least comic book-like and the best ever X-Men movie simultaneously?
James Mangold's The Wolverine might not have been the swing for the fence it should have been (it was a little boring, a little sombre and a lot misguided), but his follow-up is an absolute triumph. It embraces the rating, giving Wolverine his claws in quite stunningly effective manner, showing more kills, more gore and more impact than any X-Men movie to date. Hell, any comic book movie to date.
But it's not just an exercise in gore porn either. The film has the most heart ever seen in an X-Men movie, with some genuine dusty moments inspired by heart-breaking writing and the kind of finality that you just can't get around. It is marked by tragedy and swathed in blood, but this was the perfect way to end both Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart's time as leads in the X-Men franchise.
You might not want to watch it again though: that sort of devastation can't be good for anyone multiple times...
