F*&k You, Critics: Warner Bros Are Making Man Of Steel 2
This universe will NOT be stopped.
Given Warner Bros' public reaction to Suicide Squad's "great performance", you'd be forgiven for thinking the studio is actively trying to troll the critics (that imaginary community of "enemies" they'll profit from defining). That will count doubly so today, because the studio have come out with the least expected news possible and announced - via TheWrap and a "person familiar with the project" - that they are actively working on Man Of Steel 2.
Thus far, Warner Bros have decided not to comment officially, but the plan is apparently to bring the film out after Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie, which is expected to land in 2018. Hopefully they'll also take out the title and give us just Superman. Or maybe troll everyone even more and call it Superman Lives.
The studio currently has Suicide Squad in cinemas with a still remarkable first weekend haul of $135m. Whether it will continue to perform like that remains to be seen (it won't, but don't you dare suggest it), but the reactions from the more fervent element of fans will have pleased them. They'll have to hope that enthusiasm continues throughout the early years of the DCEU.
The film would mark the fifth appearance by Henry Cavill as Superman - assuming he appears in Justice League: Part One. And despite issues with Batman v Superman and Man Of Steel, he is a great casting. He just needs some better material.
Warner Bros. currently has two untitled DC films to be released on Oct. 5th, 2018 and Nov. 1st, 2019, which will likely be The Batman and the return of Superman. Let's hope they're worth the wait.
