Speaking of the MACUSA, this may be their main, No-Maj-cover entrance - it's definitely not from when Newt first gets off the boat - we see that in just a moment. But I'll get to this group later - wherever we are, it's the voice-over that's more interesting here.

Continuing from the Hogwarts incident, Graves says "Yet one of your teachers argued strongly against your expulsion. I wonder what makes Albus Dumbledore so fond of you, Mr. Scamander."

Yes, it's a nod to the famed child endangerer himself, although it does feel a bit odd. There's little to suggest Dumbledore was a teacher at the time (he was dealing with serious personal loss), although it can be made to fit the timeline. More confusing is how a standard Professor of Transfiguration would be noteworthy enough for his objecting of a student being expelled for a completely unrelated misdemeanour (although I have a theory of how that part works later) to make its way across the Atlantic (don't forget the US had next to no impact on the UK-set Potter stories).

Let's hope we don't have a Hobbit situation on our hands, with references to the original shoved in for no reason.
