Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs
2. The New York Setting Goes Down A Treat
It was definitely a good idea to move the setting from England to the U.S., giving the film a highly unique flavour and keen sense of time and place.
Though Rowling and Yates somewhat disappointingly avoid the temptation to point out various New York landmarks and make the city a "character" in of itself, the shift at least makes way for a transatlantic cast, and provides an entertaining glimpse into the cultural differences that define the wizard world in different countries (for instance, Americans call muggles the "nomaj").
Probably the most interesting thing about getting four more movies is finding out where each one will be set, as it'd be particularly awesome to see other parts of the U.S. play host to magic, given how geographically diverse the country is.
It's already been confirmed that the next film will be mostly set in the UK and Paris, but hopefully they won't forget America's west coast either...
