6. The Intelligencia
Dr Doom and Mr Fantastic have an ongoing feud because they are about as smart as each other. The rivalry works out perfectly because they are on the same intellectual level. But once you throw in the Invisible Woman (also a scientist), the Human Torch (sometimes vaguely intelligent), and the Thing (kind of dumb, but occasionally has a good idea), things quickly become unbalanced. The Fantastic Four are, at their heart, a team of scientists and explorers. A satisfying antagonist, or antagonists, needs to be able to meet the team on their own terms. One character could never really hope to match all four heroes on an equal footing. The Intelligencia is a group made up of the most intelligent supervillains in the Marvel universe. Their roster has changed with each appearance, although many recurring Fantastic Four villains including the Red Ghost, Mad Thinker, and even Dr Doom have been members in the past. Having a set of enemies that not only outnumber the Fantastic Four, but that actually beats them both in terms of physical strength and mental ability to could actually add a decent challenge to the team.
With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent.
