Fantastic Four: 5 Major Differences Between The Original Script And Finished Film

2. Galactus Is Coming

Fantastic Four climaxes on an insincere note of faux-triumph. The gang have undeservedly overcome the odds, and now have a life-time of apparent nothingness stretched out in front of them. Basically I really don't want to watch Fantastic Four 2. But in Slater's script there's the threat of the franchise's ultimate evil. Galactus, eater of worlds, has resided in the Negative Zone for eons, but thanks to Von Doom he's seeking to break out and consume Earth. Von Doom plans to vanquish the destroyer so he can replace him. The gang thwart Von Doom, who's also trying to protect the Negative Zone ala the finished movie, but crucially he survives and word of Galactus' intentions spread. The script ends with the gang warning others about Doom and Galactus, thus setting up a clear trajectory and road-map for the rest of the series. There's motivation and threat established, a sound alternative to the wet blanket we actually got.
