Fantastic Four Reboot: 7 Rules Josh Trank & Fox MUST Follow

2. Integrate The Franchise With X-Men

There's one major thing that's totally baffled me about the decisions of people at Fox regarding their movie properties. For the better part of a decade they've had control of film right for two of Marvels best teams and one of its best vigilantes. Why the hell haven't they taken advantage of this? Sure one could argue that Sony is in a similar position by owning the rights to Spider-Man and Ghost Rider, but that argument would be dead bang wrong. If you got some top shelf comics writers and screen play geniuses into a room and told them to come up with the best possible movie crossing over Spidey and Ghosty, at most you'd get maybe 5 or 6 great ideas. More likely you'd have 2 or 3 great ideas that could be made on a reasonable budget and not go over the heads of most popcorn audiences or movie executives. Give that same room of talent a 2nd assignment of "come up with the best ideas you can of crossing over at least 2 if not all 3 of the franchises for X-Men, Fantastic Four and Daredevil" 20 great ideas would be produced by the end of the first day and the team would be back in the morning to get started on the next 20. Dr. Doom teams up with Magneto. That one sentence can lend itself to at least 3 different great ideas. Don't believe me? An amoral exploration of Cold War politics.€ A socio-economic exploration of how the wealthy class exploits minorities and gets them to fight amongst themselves.€ Why are cults of personality a dangerous thing and what happens when you have two of them collide against each other?€ What is the appropriate response to allegations of a sovereign nation harboring known terrorist and how should a member nation of NATO and the UN handle the matter when super human powers are involved?€ A man obsessed with righting the wrongs of the world and satiating the burning desire for vengeance against racial oppression must confront the question of how far he's willing to go for his goals while a third world dictator must balance the needs of his people against the looming threat of globalization and the two men are thrown together into a power struggle against ways of the world.€Is the enemy of my enemy truly a potential friend? How far can friendship be trusted when there is no honor among thieves? Oh wait, that was more than three. See what I mean? Now as I said, Dr. Doom should be avoided for the reboot, so this would necessarily have to be an idea for a sequel. But while they're introducing the new setting and the latest iteration of the FF team, why not let the audience know "hey by the way, this takes place in the same world as X-Men First Class!" and just to really throw them off, reveal that in the middle of the movie, then hit them with a mid-cap or end-cap stinger that tells them "Hey, Dr. Doom is out there ready to throw down with Reed for FF2!"
