Fantastic Four Review: 7 Stupid Blunders That Totally Ruin The Film

2. They Get Powers Because They're Drunk (Seriously)

You know what's worse than having Sue cut out of her own origin? The entire motivation of the team heading into the unknown being changed. There's nothing wrong with altering how the Four get their powers - we now know that heading into space doesn't lead to superpowers via cosmic rays - but the motivation must stay the same; it's all about furthering scientific progress for the greater good. In Fant4stic, Reed, Johnny and Doom start lamenting how, once NASA get involved in their dimensional travel, they'll not become household names for what they've created. They want fame, godammit, and even though Reed and Victor have made clear they're only in it to make the world a better place, they decide to become latter-day Neil Armstrong's. But that's not the worst bit; this entire character-redefining cr*p comes from the trio getting drunk, and acting on their inebriated dream immediately. So the Fantastic Four are created because a couple of geeks got drunk and turned a bit possessive? Wow, inspirational stuff there.
