Fast And Furious: Hobbs & Shaw - 7 Ups And 2 Downs

The one major downfall of this film though comes in the form of its antagonist, Idris Elba. From the very beginning we're told to receive Brixton as a man who is the physical and intellectual superior of both our protagonists, and in particular both of our protagonists combined. However upon exiting the cinema you realise that, at no stage, is that threat actually believable.

He arrives at the opening to attempt to capture the virus, but is evaded by Hattie. He then arrives at the CIA Black Site to kidnap her, but our heroes combine to evade him again. He then lays a trap at his secret base, but our gang easily escape and blow it up in the process. Finally he arrives in Samoa at extract his revenge, but his forces are outmanoeuvred and he's then beaten to a pulp by #Teamwork.

While being an interesting character (and in fairness brilliantly portrayed by Elba, who's clearly enjoying himself here), he's virtually a non-entity in any relevant way. He achieves nothing, and in reality never really poses any actual threat. Simply giving us one scene where he clearly emerges as the alleged "Black Superman" he's pitched as would have really, really added something.

Should point out though, actually watching it through in the cinema, you probably won't notice and/or care. Just go see it.
