Fast & Furious Franchise: 20 Greatest Action Sequences Ranked
14. Fast & Furious 6 - The Tank
This well-known set-piece from Fast & Furious 6 is a bit too short, but it still delivers a hell of a punch.
It's another beautifully-made, fittingly tense and utterly delightful slice of ridiculous mayhem that'll have you biting your nails one moment and screaming with laughter the next
It's also an interesting example of what makes the Fast and Furious action scenes work. It's ridiculous... but not too ridiculous. Most of this sequence is, of course, incredibly unlikely but it could potentially happen, so it doesn't go too far into film-ruining absurdity.
Of course, it does have that beyond-preposterous mid-air catch at the end, but that's the only moment where the film goes into complete fantasy territory. By having just one or two moments like this in an action sequence, it ensures that viewers can still take these set-pieces seriously enough to feel invested in the action.
Meanwhile, the fantasy moments allow these movies to stand out from other action films and since they're used sparingly, these leaps into the fantastical remain endearing instead of irritating (mostly, anyway).
Therefore, the tank chase is a very good showcase of what makes a Fast and Furious action scene work so well when it's done properly.
