Fast X Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
2. Louis Leterrier's Solid Direction
Many fans were worried when Justin Lin quit Fast X's production just a week into shooting amid supposed "creative differences," and though Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me) isn't a remotely inspired choice to replace him, he acquits himself just fine.
For a filmmaker who was thrown into the project with basically zero prep time, Leterrier manages to approximate the series' house style impressively well.
Sure, it's not quite as fluid and exciting as Lin's finer work on the series - in part because the set-pieces themselves just aren't as fresh - but Leterrier is a safe pair of hands who was able to safely deliver a decently shot end result.
Evidently Leterrier's ability to rein in such a massive behemoth of a blockbuster under huge time constraints impressed Vin Diesel and Universal, as he's already been confirmed to return for Fast 11.
