Fifty Shades Freed: 18 WTF Moments
11. The Pointless Cheating Elliot Subplot
Another wildly unnecessary subplot involves Ana's longtime pal Kate (Eloise Mumford) getting suspicious that her boyfriend and Christian's brother Elliot (Luke Grimes) is cheating on her with the flirty architect Gia from earlier in the movie.
This is further suggested by Ana seeing Gia and Elliot hanging out together in fairly intimate terms, but about two minutes later, Elliot proposes to Kate, and it's implied that Gia was only helping him pick out the engagement ring.
It's likely that a number of scenes in-between were cut out of the movie, which would explain why it pulls such a quick 180 of building the suspicion and dashing it aside two minutes later.
Either way, there's no reason for the audience to care and no reason for the subplot to really exist. At least it's not dragged out until the very end of the movie.
