Film Theory: Split Is More Than A Standalone Sequel To Unbreakable...

1. Closing Thoughts

Split Theory

So that's potentially how Split could be the very reflection of its title: a split, or opening point, that reveals the interlocking universe of M. Night Shyamalan through the cracks it reveals. Most pertinently, it's the suggestion of The Sixth Sense as a prequel that stands out to connect these films, bringing together the continued references to both the supernatural and the superpowered alongside Unbreakable's superhero worldbuilding. Super.

There’s many tiny moments that allow for a wider Shyamalanverse to be loosely pieced together, and whilst far-fetched, it’s something that’s so incredibly like him to do that it’d be a shock if he hasn’t read these theories and decided to make it happen himself. The ultimate plot twist of his very last movie could be this very idea, and these would be the moments he’s sewn for us to pick up along the way. God bless that crazy, detailed man.

Overall, it’s a bit of fun, and something that makes watching these movies all the more entertaining. On that note, is there any more examples between the films that could create a shared universe? What other films tie into this ideology? Does anyone actually like The Last Airbender? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
