First Look At Flying Monkeys From Sam Raimi's Oz The Great & Powerful!

Will these versions of those devilish creatures give you as many nightmares as they do in the bright and colourful original film?

A crew member working on Sam Raimi's Wizard of Oz prequel Oz The Great and Powerful has posted an image of himself on his Facebook alongside a hideously evil looking flying money from the film. The image is above courtesy of Perez Hilton (via Bleeding Cool) who have watermarked the extra in question. Will these versions of the flying monkeys give you as many nightmares as they do in the bright and colourful original film? I'm betting so on the basis of the fella above. The new flying monkeys look like something out of Planet of the Apes but with wings and kudos to Raimi for going for old school make-up and prosthetics on these devil creatures and not some CGI tomfoolery. At least Raimi isn't half-assing this one as we thought he might and maybe he hasn't taken this job for the paycheque after all. To further back-up that statement child actress Joey King said recently;
"We€™re doing the same thing as the first 'Wizard of Oz,' we€™re making it black and white in the beginning and then (it gets) colorful when we enter the Land of Oz. It€™s also going to be a 3D movie; I€™m so excited about that. It€™s going to add a whole new level to the awesomeness of Oz,"
So it's sepia in a faithful Oz style to begin with? I'm cool with that. Oz The Great and Powerful stars James Franco in the title role as we see his first journey to Oz. Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis co-star as various degrees of evil witches. There's extensive post-production on this one and we won't get to see the final product until March 3rd, 2012.
