First Look: James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

It might not look like it but these are the first set photo's from the London-based production of Matthew Vaughn's 'X-Men: First Class'. They feature our first glimpse at Jennifer Lawrence (as a very human looking Mystique), James McAvoy (as the not-yet focally challenged, or yet-wheelchair bound Prof. Xavier) and below, Rose Byrne as (the Nobel Peace Prize winning assistant to Xavier, Dr. Moira McTaggart)... Sure, they don't show us a great deal but it's pretty evident nonetheless that Vaughn is bringing a much more real-world, grounded feel to the X-Universe. I do wonder if this somewhat dashes my hopes of seeing the Jim Lee style colourful costumes rather than the boring uniforms of Singer's imagination? Another interesting X-Men tidbit hit the web four days ago when Brendon Connelly at Bleeding Cool said Vaughn has created an 'exhaustible' shot-for-shot remake of the famous opening scene from 'X-Men', which of course showed the origins of the young Eric Leshner (Magneto) as he lost his family in a P.O.W. camp. Although this time it will be very different, not least because 'Son of Rambow' actor Bill Milner is playing the young Leshner but also because there's 'some very dramatic twists' that differ from the original film, which Connelly won't yet divulge. Is it a Spock-like X-universe figure from the future coming back to change the past? Patrick Stewart as an older Xavier perhaps? Oh, I'm intrigued. Really, really intrigued.
