First Look: THE BEAVER Poster

The recent actor led revolt on the set of The Hangover 2 that then led to the ousting of the controversial oddball Mel Gibson because of his latest P.R. fiasco SHOULD have been a selling point for Summit Entertainment to quickly release their already in the can dramedy The Beaver before the end of the year. I mean as things stand right now, what have they honestly got to lose? It will be impossible for Gibson to redeem himself of his actions against his former girlfriend and whilst time will heal some of the wounds, there's been a question mark over the actor's sanity ever since his drunken anti-semitic tirade some years ago now. It wasn't like he's been squeaky clean since What Women Want in 2000. Edge of Darkness made no money, Gibson's been out of the spotlight for so long and perhaps the best thing that could have happened to Jodie Foster's film was the controversy of her star's personal life. At least he became newsworthy again and there was a kind of morbid curiosity about peaking behind the curtain and seeing just how crazy Gibson actually was. Summit are promoting The Beaver at the American Film Market right now in the hope that a distributor's interest will be peaked - perhaps for a mid 2011 release. By then, I wonder if they will have missed the boat and Gibson will just be that nutjob that isn't marketable, instead of the nutjub that is somewhat marketable as he is right now.
