Freddy Krueger smells like teen spirit?

Just a day before Jason Voorhees makes his epic return in a FRIDAY THE 13TH reboot and word comes from The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business blog that a director has been chosen for the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET redo. The last of the big five influential slasher horror films of the 70's and 80's (TCM, PSYCHO, HALLOWEEN, FRIDAY THE 13TH being the others) to be remade will be directed by commercials and music video helmer Samuel Bayer for Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes. Bayer, director of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit music video had spent well over a year trying to remake another 80's horror classic in the vampire film NEAR DARK at the same studio but for whatever reason, it never got pass the script stage development. Titled A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, this new redo was written by CAPE FEAR writer Wesley Strick and will once again re-introduce Freddy Krueger into the world, this time with a new actor playing the lead part. The idea is to showcase a scary Krueger and not the joke cracking one that appeared in the later movies. The movie should begin production in the Spring in the Chicago suburbs and with it being Freddy's 25th anniversary this year, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw this one released as early as late October. But next February is just as much a possibility. via - coming soon
