The Saw franchise works the same way, although it employs graphic torture porn rather than comedy. Dan's death is a Freddy comedy vehicle with lines such as, "fuel injection" as Dan's chest starts to resemble that of Manborg's become tiresome. That said, the closing moments of this scene as the camera pans out to reveal the metamorphosed Dan, who looks like Ghostrider minus the flames. I did enjoy.
