Freddy's dead. No new nightmare for Robert Englund...

I don't think Robert Englund is too old to play Freddy. Sure he's 59 in June but to me he looks exactly the same as he did two decades ago, he's hardly changed a bit. He's kept himself fit and healthy, and is keen to to travel the world and be adored by fans... even if we wouldn't blame him if he gave up on all that now. FREDDY VS. JASON is not 5 years old yet, and he was as good as ever in that movie. This news really sucks, but then everything involving Platnium Dunes usually does. Shock Till You Drop have heard from various sources that the new NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET restart will not involve Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger. The plan seems to be for a long-term franchise and for that they want a new actor, so depsite Englund living and breathing Krueger in every film and public performance for over two decades, Bay and his cronies say his time is up...

Hard to imagine anyone other than Englund as Krueger. He's been the character for so long and become so ingrained into popular culture that whoever they choose to take on that woolly jumper, those sickening knives, the hat and the burned face mask is going to need strong guts to survive it. It's not like playing Jason or even Michael Myers because anyone in a big damn suit can play those characters, this is a fully fleshed out character and Englund's theatrical background gave him the confidence and chops to go full on with this out of this world portrayal. If I have any advice for the folks behind this, it's look for those with a theatrical background. They will at least give the character some attitude. Still this news sucks!
