FRIDAY THE 13th lead found

Wait a minute, are they are actually remaking FRIDAY THE 13TH Part II here?

Already Platinum Dunes are changing the history for their remake of Friday the 13th.The Hollywood Reporter say that Jared Padalecki, best known for his recurring roles on both Supernatural and Gilmore Girls has been cast in the lead role for Friday the 13th. Yes the lead role!

Not a young blonde women like the original.
Paramount released the original "Friday" in 1980, introducing horror icon Jason with a brief appearance. The remake will focus on the serial killer, who will wear his now-iconic hockey mask. Padalecki will play the lead, who investigates what happened up at Crystal Lake.
So Dunes have absolutely jumped the gun and are going to showcase Jason straight away. Guess we shouldn't be surprised, he is the money of the franchise after all. But if they had been clever and used their heads a little, they could have done the original some real justice by making the killer Jason's mum and real slowly build towards the Jason reveal. I'm of the opinion that the original Friday the 13th is the absolute best of the bunch and not it's sequel which introduced the iconic character. Isn't it more accurate to say they are actually remaking Friday the 13th Part II with this plot? Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, Pathfinder) directs with a February, Friday 13th 2009 release planned (thank god it didn't go for the Halloween remake route and open on a strange day).
