Gabriel Macht is The Spirit!

Frank Miller has cast his actor for his solo directorial debut The Spirit and it's none other than Gabriel Macht, the co-star of the upcoming Kate Beckinsale action movie Whiteout. He has most recently starred in Because I Said So and The Good Shepherd. He is virtually an unknown, which should work to the movie's advantage. For those who don't know, The Spirit is a detective like superhero who faked his own death to battle crime from behind the shadows of Central City. He has no super-powers and solves crime with only his brain but he has a weakness for the femme fatale's of this world. In this movie he will go up against his arch-nemesis Octopus, a villain who is attempting to wipe out the entire population of the city. We believe this role will be filled by Samuel L. Jackson. All actors who were up for the role of The Spirit had to audition, with a Lionsgate official giving Variety the following quote...

"We think Gabriel has a devilishly charming quality, and the dry wit that embodies the Spirit, and we wanted to do this with someone who can embody this character for the next few years, because we anticipate we'll be making more than one Spirit movie,"
Shooting begins in October on what is one of my most anticipated movies of 2009 with Frank Miller directing! Boy this should be fun and something tells me he has a project in the future he is desperate to work on and this is the first step in him climbing that ladder. Something around the time of 2013. Something three of four movies down the line. Something involving a certain big name character who will rule the Summer next year.
