Game Over, Man! Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
4. It's A (Sometimes) Hilarious Die Hard Parody
Though there are unfunny and problematic gags to deal with, there are also moments where the movie is such a pin-sharp parody of Die Hard and it really starts to find its groove.
Early on, for instance, Sam Richardson appears in the film as Donald, the black techie member of the terrorist group, who even wryly remarks on his physical similarity to Theo (Clarence Gilyard), the hacker from Hans Gruber's (Alan Rickman) terror outfit in Die Hard.
There are countless other homages to the classic action movie - including a sequence where the three reluctant heroes attempt to make a high-wire exit from the hotel - and for the most part these beats are fun and affectionate.
It's a shame it's not more focused overall, but when it really works, the laughs come thick and fast.
