Gary Oldman Wants To Cast Colin Firth In His Mysterious Remake!

Is it a new version of Michael Caine's Pulp?!? We don't know what Oldman is planning to remake just yet but we do know who he wants to lead...

It's been 14 years since Gary Oldman last directed a movie which is a great shame considering Nil By Mouth, his late 90's British directorial debut about a portrait of a broken family from alcohol absue and domestic violence in a South East London council estate was such an impressive film. But I suppose playing Commissioner Gordon, Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise, pleasing the genre crowd (Red Riding Hood, The Unborn & Book of Eli) and his return to leading man status with Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (our review coming soon) has kept him busy enough over the years and we have no doubt that Oldman wouldn't step behind the camera unless it was for a passion project. You see as well as directing Nil By Mouth, the accomplished thesp also wrote the screenplay based on much of his own experiences. But as his association with the Batman saga could sadly be winding down (we of course hope he stays on when Nolan/Bale leave) once he has finished filming The Dark Knight Rises, time seems to be freeing up for him again to pick up the pen, and eventually the camera. We've known since we spoke with him at the Empire Awards that Oldman has been looking to direct a movie and we've recently heard it was to be a remake, but of what we don't know. Some months later and we aren't much closer to being in a position to answer the question of just what he is hoping to adapt but certainly the prospect of the unknown remake has become more intriguing today with Oldman telling Esquire that he wants Colin Firth to star in it.
€œI think I€™m gonna do something with Colin Firth,€ Oldman told U.K. Esquire in a recent interview. €œIt was something I€™d been thinking about for a while, I can€™t say what it is, but it€™s a remake, and when I worked with Colin I thought: here€™s the guy to do it with.€
These days Firth is no stranger to remake. Obviously there's his role in the above movie but he's also been shooting a remake of the Michael Caine caper comedy classic Gambit that will open next year. Of course we don't know what Oldman is wanting to remake but I think we can probably ascertain for sure now that it will be a British film, hopefully one that on release showed a good concept but was flawed and Oldman knows the way to properly crack it. Whether he would actually be able to attract Firth for it is unknown but the pair are known to be friendly and usually it's those kind of relationships that keep the Hollywood wheel churning. More info as we get it... but for now let's enjoy the music video Oldman directed last year for L.A. singer songwriter Jonathan Clark and a track from his debut album I'm Just Sayin' which was probably a warm up gig Oldman took for whatever film he ends up remaking... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I2-qD6PXAo (via - The Playlist)
