George Lucas Star Wars Return - What Will Happen
3. Why Lucas Might Be Coming Back
For starters, Christian has had a decades-long relationship with Star Wars, as beyond A New Hope he additionally served as the second unit director on both Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace.
He later also met with the design crews for The Force Awakens and Star Wars Rebels, though wasn't employed on those projects in any official capacity.
Regardless, Christian has clearly maintained a relationship with the Star Wars brand over the decades, and so it goes without saying that he likely has friends in high places at Lucasfilm who would be privy to information about George Lucas coming back to the franchise.
It also just makes artistic sense, given the renewed interest in Lucas' prequel trilogy in recent years, and the perception that many new Star Wars projects are flagging without the visionary oversight of the person who built the franchise from scratch.
And of course, the vagueness of Christian's comments means that George Lucas returning to Star Wars doesn't necessarily have to indicate him coming back to write or direct a new series.
With Lucas turning 80 years of age this year, bringing him in as a creative consultant to bounce ideas off and ensure internal consistency is probably more likely, which would in turn grant this series, whatever it ends up being, a fan-pleasing stamp of approval.
In the very least, we know that despite Lucas likening the Star Wars sale to a divorce, he's hardly allergic to being associated with the franchise, even being famously photographed holding Grogu on the set of The Mandalorian.
But if Lucas is indeed coming back to work on Star Wars again, it begs the question - why exactly did he sell it in the first place?
