George Tillman Jr. directing Notorious B.I.G. biopic
Cuba Gooding Jnr's career wasn't the only one that went sour after the factual navy movie Men of Honor seven years ago. The director George Tillman Jr. hasn't helmed a movie since! Though today's Variety say Tillman is ready to return to directing for the movie biopic of the deceased hip-hop star Notorious B.I.G, who Tillman is said to have been a huge admirer of. The movie is being setup at Fox Searchlight with the mother and former music producers of Christopher Wallace (his real name) on board for the flick. A nationwide casting call began yesterday with people encouraged to send in audition tapes if they have any kind of resemblance to the guy, even if they have little or no acting ability, which is just bizarre if you ask me. Why would they want someone who can't act? Can't say I know much about Notorious B.I.G, so I guess I'm mildly interested in seeing a movie adaptation to learn more about him. If I'm honest, I find these biopics really quite interesting and a great way to find out a little more about real-life figures who you have only heard little things about. I loved the biopics Walk the Line and The Aviator recently. I'm happy for more, as long as they keep the same depth and quality, not just in terms of acting, but writing and directing too.
