Gillian Anderson in War Correspondent biopic
Gillian Anderson, who recently told the press that she felt unfit and exhausted on the set of the new X-Files movie (well she is now 40) putting a slight doubt to any future sequels - has today landed a decent sized project for herself. Arguably, the biggest project outside of The X-Files. Variety say she will play "trailblazing female war correspondent" Martha Gellhorn in a biopic of her life based on a 2004 autobiography by Caroline Moorhead, which is she will also produce via her Fiddlehead Productions.
She reported on virtually every major world conflict that took place during her 60-year career. Gellhorn was also the third wife of American novelist Ernest Hemingway, from 1940 to 1945. At the age of 89, ill and nearly completely blind, she ended her life by taking a poison pill. That above description came from Wikipedia. The movie is being adapted by Sharman Macdonald who knows a good bit about this period having wrote the WW-II drama The Edge of Love. I'm always fascinated by this era whenever it's depicted on film and I love true to life biopics of people who have done enough in their life to fuel several different movies. Anderson looks a lot like Gellhorn, I think she might just be able to pull this one off. Again, screenwriter Macdonald seems more interested with the lives of the other people in relationships with playwrights then the playwrights themselves.
