8. Godzilla Becomes A Magnet (Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla)
Godzilla vs. Mechgodzilla is full of crazy ideas, including apes from outer space and lion gods, but one of the most random involves a new power Godzilla seemingly acquires out of the blue. After being injured by Mechagodzilla in their first encounter, Godzilla retreats to an island to recover. While there, he gets struck by lightning multiple times, which causes his spines to shoot up like fireworks. At this point the audience is wondering what the point of that was; the logistics of the scene is impossible to interpret. It is not until the final battle between Godzilla, King Caesar, and Mechagodzilla that this scene is paid off when Godzilla suddenly becomes a giant magnet... Yes, somehow getting zapped by lightning gives Godzilla the power of magnetism, which of course easily defeats the robotic Mechagodzilla. Godzilla is able to draw him close, allowing him to rip Mechagodzilla's head off. This is such a WTF moment because this power literally comes out of nowhere. It's like the writers couldn't think of a way Godzilla could defeat such a powerful opponent, so they made up some random power. It is useful only in the moment it is needed, after which is never is seen again in this film or any that follows.
