Godzilla Trailer: 10 Most Epic Moments

3. March Of The King

The trailer does a good job of demonstrating the type of scale Gareth Edwards is going for, and no shot I think does it quite like this one. With no soundtrack accompanying it, a group of soldiers on a building shoot flares into the sky. As the red lights drift upwards, the camera follows as they are met with a huge creature, most likely Godzilla himself. This is a mind-blowing shot. Once again, we don€™t completely see him, but we are able to get a sense of just how big he is. Notice how tiny the soldiers are relative to him. This Godzilla is the biggest one, and it is made readily apparent here. Love how the flares reflect off his wet, charcoal skin.
So far, what we€™ve seen is doing a great job of showing how the monsters are being shot and framed, that being with scale in mind. If you are going to make a giant monster threatening, you€™ve got to play up its size. As charming as the Toho films are, the limitations of the suitmation technology has never allowed for the filmmakers to really make Godzilla feel truly gargantuan. You are always aware of the effects, which is its own sort of fun. The reason a big-budget Godzilla is so exciting for fans is because it gives the audience a chance to see him in a realistic manner for the first time.
