Golden Globes 2020: 10 Ups & 6 Downs
Ups...
10. Ricky Gervais' Hilarious Hosting Job
Ricky Gervais returned to host the Golden Globes for the fifth time, and though there was plenty of concern that he might turn in another disappointingly bland performance after his dud hosting job back in 2016, thankfully Gervais was back on fighting form this year.
His savage opening monologue alone, rife with brutal jokes about Ronan Farrow, Jeffrey Epstein...and James Corden, certainly left many in the live audience squirming in their seats, but it was a fitting thumbing of the nose at the entitled Hollywood elite.
While some of his targets were undeniably low-hanging fruit, it was refreshing to see a character of his irreverence in an era defined by political correctness, and his ribs at hypocritical Hollywood went down especially well.
Though it remains to be seen whether or not this is truly his final time hosting the Globes, it'd certainly be a fine one to bow out on.
