9. It's Aimed At A Younger Audience

Which will be a shame, considering nostalgia has been scoring big lately, with glossy kid flicks based on Saturday morning cartoons like The Smurfs and The Moomins making box office bank along with the Amblin homage Super 8. It seems Columbia is looking to court kids alone, rather than draw in adults with a nostalgia for these twisted and darkly funny books - and with R.L. Stine possessing a loyal and ever-growing Twitter following, it would seem a waste to discount older demographics on this one. Still, there is hope: the film's producer Neal Moritz said the feature was created to be a movie-going experience for all ages. So despite preconceptions, maybe it will prove a hit for everyone. Fingers crossed.
