Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 - 10 Things We Want To See
7. Nova
The inclusion of the Nova Corps had many fans hopeful that Richard Rider, a.k.a. Nova, would have a cameo in the film to set up his own solo film. Again, Nathan Fillion's name was tossed around for the role, but alas, Nova was nowhere to be seen, and the Nova Corps that he's a part of were changed heavily in the final film. In the comics, the Nova Corps function quite like DC's Green Lantern Corps. They're basically an intergalactic police force. They tap into something called the Nova Force, which is generated by the Living Computers of the planet Xandar, called the Xandarian Worldmind. It's all a bit weird and a bit tooscience fiction-y for general audiences, which explains why Gunn took some liberties with the Corps and depowered them for his film; which ultimately forced the Corps to rely on the Guardians to save Xandar. In the books, the Nova Force grants Corps members with powers depending on their rank. Abilities include superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, flight, healing factor, and the ability to create electromagnetic beams. Pretty cool, eh? It's possible that Gunn explores more of the Nova Corps, and introduces Richard Rider, in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but we wouldn't put money on it. He's expressed his distaste in the character, saying he doesn't find him very interesting, so it may come down to his personal preference when introducing new characters. Still, there's tonsof potential with Nova, including a potential spin-off franchise, so maybe Kevin Feige will talk some sense into him.
