Speaking to Empire, James Gunn revealed the following detail about Ego the Living Planet:

"We have over a trillion polygons on Ego’s planet. It’s the biggest visual effect of all time. There’s nothing even close to it. Which is cool.”

Even allowing that there might be some hyperbole used by moviemakers to hype their own films, that's an incredible claim, and one you'd think he must be backing up to some degree.

Aside from the fact it'll also be taking the guise of Kurt Russell (which is cool enough really, because, well, it's Kurt Russell!), we will get to see Ego as a planet, and it sounds like it's going to be BIG. It's inspired by the fractal art of Hal Tenny, who was then brought on to collaborate on the design. A look at Tenny's DeviantArt page gives an idea of what we might expect, which is frankly all kinds of craziness.

The special effects in Doctor Strange took things to another level, especially as far as Marvel is concerned, and Gunn has stated this movie will be topping that. With Ego as its crowning glory, it should make for a truly spectacular sight.
