12. Mantis Is Star-Lord's Half-Sister

The Theory: Mantis is Ego's daughter from one of his previous space-faring romances, and as such she is actually Star-Lord's half-sister.

The Truth: As logical as this seemed pre-release, Mantis is in fact merely referred to as Ego's "pet" throughout the film, having first encountered her while she was still in the larvae stage and subsequently adopting her. He has kept her in seclusion on his home planet ever since, hence her hilarious lack of social skills.

Given the film's already considerable abundance of familial subplots, it was probably a smart idea not to throw yet another one in the mix and further complicate things.
