The very opening of the film sees the return of Laura Haddock's Meredith Quill, who appeared at the start of the first film in the heart-breaking death scene. Here, she appears vital and in love with a young Kurt Russell's Ego (the deaging work on him is great), telling the story of their romance and Peter's conception.

And this is a good point to remind you that Haddock actually appeared in the MCU before Guardians Of The Galaxy. She was the girl looking for Cap's autograph in the first Captain America movie...
