Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2: 6 Things We Learned From EW's New Concept Art

And here she is folks - the newest member of the Guardians Of The Galaxy cast: Pom Klementieff's Mantis, who appears not to be quite the lurid green skinned alien she was in the comics. She does still have her antennae though, which is nice to see.

Mantis has become a key character in the modern Guardians of the Galaxy comics by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, particularly in the run that has formed the basis of James Gunn's adaptation.

Producer Jonathan Schwarz offered this about her as a character:

“She has never really experienced social interaction. Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.”

From the comics, Mantis has telepathic and empathetic powers that allow her to manipulate others - including the team. It was actually her manipulation of the Guardians that lead to them splitting in two (and Rocket leading the splinter group) when it was revealed she was making her fellow members rally behind Star Lord.

It would be interesting to see that happen in the film, particularly if it means a spin-off for Rocket (and maybe Groot with him?)
