Guillermo Del Toro: Ranking His Films From Worst To Best

1. Pan's Labyrinth

Pan's Labyrinth Was anything else ever really even close to stealing the #1 spot away from this one? Del Toro's 2006 masterpiece Pan's Labyrinth isn't just the director's greatest film, it's easily one of the greatest movies of all time, and certainly of its kind. Perfectly balanced between arthouse existentialism and the stylistic concerns of Hollywood, Pan's Labyrinth is a drama that's both hard-hitting and haunting, but also wondrous and exciting. Think of Alice in Wonderland for adults, Pan's Labyrith indulges in the wonder of a child's imagination, but also isn't afraid to lament the violent landscape of the post-Civil War sentiment in Spain. More so than anything, it is the production and costume design that is utterly flawless here; the Faun and the Pale Man - both played by the go-to-costume guy, Doug Jones, who also played Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movies - are at once figures that are terrifying to observe and impossible to look away from. That this all ties into a supremely affecting story about one young girl's quest to survive in a hostile environment is just the icing on the cake. Unmissable. How do you rank Del Toro's movies?
