Guillermo del Toro has been offered the director's chair on Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures re-imagining of '
Godzilla', planned as a big 2012 tentpole. But then the director himself told
Hitfix a little later that no offer had been actually been made;
"I am not involved in 'Godzilla' at all," Guillermo replied once I'd explained the rumor to him. "I haven't read it or plan to read it. Nor have I been approached to direct it."
So unless Warner Bros. use the postal service for their offers instead of telephone, fax or e-mail, then it's a false story. But then, what do we make of the other part of LR's exclusive? The second part of their story claims WB have transformed

Pacific Rim' - about malevolent creatures who threaten the earth, resulting in the planet bonding together with highly advanced technology to stop them - into their new 'Godzilla' movie. Is that info correct, or just rumour too? Well this time Hitfix can't give us a direct quote dismissal but Drew does say that from what he's heard, WB have much confidence in their 'Godzilla' script so they wouldn't want to tear it up. But who knows, we haven't heard anything on the movie since the above
concept art was revealed at Comic Con three months ago, and that can be an awful long time in this industry. Presumably, they need to find a director before the end of the year for the movie to still hit it's Summer 2012 date (though I think Christmas 2012, is more viable). Meanwhile, del Toro is busy at work on his lifelong passion project
'At The Mountains of Madness' where he says "things are going incredibly well". The $130 million R-rated Lovecraftian film, which
James Cameron is producing at Universal, is a thousand times more interesting than this reboot.
