Guillermo Del Toro's New Supernatural Romance Bags Michael Shannon As The Villain
Who else would he play?
Having established his villainous credentials with towering performances in movies such as The Iceman and Man Of Steel, Michael Shannon is now set to play another bad guy in a new project from Crimson Peak creator Guillermo del Toro.
According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Shannon is currently in talks to appear in the as yet untitled project alongside Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer and Michael Stuhlbarg. Guillermo del Toro, renowned for being linked to multiple projects at any given moment in time, is scheduled to shoot the picture this summer from his own screenplay.
While details are currently thin on the ground, the project looks set to be against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963, and promises to deliver a mysterious, magical journey focusing around an otherworldly love story.
One of the most prolific actors of his generation, Michael Shannon recently appeared in the critically acclaimed film Midnight Special, directed by regular collaborator Jeff Nichols, as well as a cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. His most recent movie, Elvis & Nixon, in which he plays the king of rock alongside Kevin Spacey as the former disgraced President, was released to mixed reviews after premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival.
No release dates for the untitled Guillermo del Toro project have been announced.
