Gwyneth Paltrow: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

3. Margot Tenenbaum - The Royal Tenenbaums

Wes Anderson is the man of the moment, with his latest film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, courting a lot of awards attention. Hopefully, with the mainstream celebration of one of America's most unique filmmakers, his back catalogue (which is just as impressive as Grand Budapest) will also get some wider retroactive exposure - he's played well in film circles for years, but never cracked into multiplexes before. Films like The Royal Tenenbaums really do need more people to see them. Noteworthy for many typical Anderson-isms, it contains one of Paltrow's best performances as Margot, the titular family's adopted daughter and chronicler. Quiet and secretive, Margot is a far cry from Paltrow's safe roles and in the Anderson universe her frank portrayal of a loner comes across as something rather subtle.
