Half-Life Movie: 10 Ways JJ Abrams Could Make It Work

Forget about Star Trek 3 (tentatively titled: Star Trek Into Diminishing Returns) or Star Wars: Episode VII. I want a Half-Life movie directed by J.J. Abrams. A Bad Robot and Valve Software team-up is a big deal, a potentially monumental collaboration of chocolate/peanut butter proportions. J.J. Abrams and Gabe Newell are both natural storytellers (Newell's getting a BAFTA fellowship, for God's sake) - and they've both been pushing their respective mediums forward for a long time now. Each studio has a lot to gain from working with the other. I'm not sure what Abrams can bring to Valve's table - but if we're ever going to get a Half-Life movie that delivers on the franchise's potential, it's going to come from J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot. Abrams might not be your first choice to direct or produce a Half-Life movie, but you know what I say? Bring on the headcrabs and lensflare!

10. Abrams Will Respect The Material

http://youtu.be/a7mihllgiro In his DICE address with Gabe Newell, J.J. Abrams talks about Portal more than Half-Life. Abrams may or may not be intimately familiar with Half-Life, but it's safe to say that a story about other dimensions, big scary monsters, government conspiracies, and a reluctant hero is in his wheelhouse. Half-Life is almost too J.J. Abrams-eque for J.J. Abrams already. Before Star Trek's release in 2009, Abrams plainly said that he wasn't a fan of Star Trek when he was growing up. But he took the time to find out why fans loved it. Judging by the results, he came to love it as well. Even with all that Red Matter crap and Old Spock and Young Scotty sharing a Zip Code on the same ice planet, 2009's Star Trek delivered the goods. Abrams would take the time to understand Half-Life and deliver a strong film, one that would work for fans and regular moviegoers alike.

Jeremy Wickett was raised from an early age in one of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma's classier opium dens. A graduate of The University of Oklahoma, he now resides in Phoenix, Arizona - where the desert heat is oppressive enough to make him hallucinate that he's a character in Star Wars. And of course he can speak Bocce - it's like a second language to him. His so-called musings can be found here: http://geekemporium.blogspot.com/
