Halle Berry says Wachowski's CLOUD ATLAS films in the Summer with Hanks & Portman

It seemed for a while that the Wachowski's next movie would be the mysteriously titled Cobalt Neural 9, their R-Rated Iraq war, gay love story. However, Halle Berry may know different. In a recent Q & A for a screening of her new film Frankie and Alice she (no doubt in a reaction to the lack of roles coming her way lately) excitedly commented;
€œI€™m going to do a movie probably in the summer with the Wachowskis€..A really interesting movie that is sort of like what they did for €˜The Matrix,€™ they have another really amazing idea that€™s sort of gonna stretch our brains even further. And so I€™m really excited about that and that€™s probably gonna be in the summer. And that€™s with Tom Hanks and Natalie Portman.€
So it looks like their other project in development, the adaptation of David Mitchell€™s Novel Cloud Atlas will be the first to reach the screen. The novel contains 6 separate but interlinked stories, spread over thousands of years from 19th Century south pacific voyage to a post-apocalyptic Hawaii. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYRJ6QNtnBw Hanks and Portman had been attached to the movie in the summer, alongside Berry, James McAvoy and Ian McKellen who had offers put to them. There€™s no mention of Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run, The International) who was working on the script and was originally on directing duties, with the Wachowskis initially wearing their producer hats. Could recent talk of the brothers directing certain segments of the film be accurate? One idea perhaps is we could see various different directors involved each helming a segment if they go the portmanteau film route. Time will tell but given the talent and the source material involved, this is one to keep an eye on.
