Halloween Kills Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

2. The TERRIBLE Character Decisions

It's par the course that people make stupid decisions against their own self-interest in horror films, but Halloween Kills takes this to a near-self-parodying level at times.

The mob of Haddonfield residents abandoning logic to fear is portrayed in cartoonishly over-the-top fashion to the point that it's not really believable.

Elsewhere, characters aware of Michael's dangerous potential routinely don't aim for the head when attacking him, which 12 entries into the franchise is absolutely laughable.

Then there are characters who needlessly split up with predictably disastrous results, ensuring that audiences may end up feeling compelled to root for Michael given the utter lack of self-preservation instincts on display.

Panic can make people do stupid things, but there's a point where it just feels like careless, lazy writing, and that's certainly the case here.
