Happy Death Day: How Many Times Does Tree Die?

Stage 5: The Finale

Happy Death Day Jessica Rothe

And finally, after killing Tombs and having a nice night of birthday celebration with Carter, Tree wakes up the next morning to find herself still caught in the time loop.

Tree quickly realises that she died in her sleep after eating a poisoned cupcake given to her by her roommate Lori, who was jealous of her hooking up with their professor, Gregory.

After the two fight, Tree manages to finally break the loop once and for all by kicking Lori out of their bedroom window, where she splats on the concrete below.

So, let's check that final total: Tree dies a total of 10 times on-screen, though if her third-act comment is taken literally, her final total post-poisoning was in fact 16 deaths, lasting just over two weeks.

Though there are certainly debates to be had about the potentially life-shortening effects of Tree's cumulative damage over those 16 deaths, it's certainly a lot less torturous than Bill Murray spending almost 34 years in the same loop... even if he never got stabbed in the chest with a broken bong.
