Harold Ramis RIP: His 10 Most Memorable Films

4. Animal House (1978)

Film producer Brian Grazer was quick to mention that Harold Ramis was "the father of the modern Hollywood comedy" and that Porky's ripped off the script for raunchy seventies comedy, Animal House. It was the first feature film co-written by Ramis and directed by John Landis (Blues Brothers, An American Werewolf In London) and it continues to go down as one of the most virulently funny movies of all time. Set in 1962, Animal House sees a debauched college fraternity go to war against the Dean and a rival house, in a bid to stay on campus - the rest, as they say, is comedy history, as the film now exists on that special plain where only the greatest films do. At the time, the idea was revolutionary in comedy circles and unrivalled in its outrageous humour, and it is for that reason that Since then a lot has changed, and we've seen the general plot and themes copied and manipulated in the American Pie films, Porky's and others. If anything, this just goes to show what an inspiration Ramis was to his peers.

I love all things imaginative, from the page to the screen, and nurture a soft spot for Donald Sutherland and Daniel Bryan.
