Harry Potter: 10 Fascinating Hidden Meanings And Metaphors

8. Weapons Say More About The Wielder

Warner Bros.

The Elder Wand is supposed to be the greatest wand ever created, with powers that its master will win any duel. But seriously, who actually buys into that?

The Elder Wand has been passed down from one wizard to the next: if it's really that great a weapon, then how come the first owner died at all? The Elder Wand may be powerful, but it doesn't actually stop you from dying. It's little more than an empty legend; if anyone who truly believes that possessing the wand protects them, they're a fool. In Harry Potter, the weapons say more about the owners that anything: Voldemort was the one who seeked the Elder Wand, whilst the only weapon Harry ever sought was the love of his friends around him, and the sword of Godric Gryffindor.

The only reason he actually summoned the sword was because he characterised his house and longed to be part of its family. It's obvious that the meaning behind this, is that you can own any weapon in the world, but it's up to the owner to use it correctly.
